patriotism crisis

Do you know the faith Crisis that some like Mother Teresa and Al-Ghazali suffered from !!??

This is something similar ,it is not about the existence of God this time more about the existence of real patriot elements in the regime , I am suffering from this patriotism crisis

I know I sound strange ,no this is not the fasting effects , the hallucinations of fasting as we call it in Egypt

I no longer have faith in that regime to include any patriot elements in its branches

I do not mean the people in regime we already lost our confidence in , but I mean those people ..... man I can find words , I feel so angry

Look to put it simple in easy way

more and more I feel that this regime with all the members made so so so so so cheap

With no dignity what so ever

With no respect to us what so ever

They are treating us as if we are idiots , as if we do not understand anything , as if we were children despite the fact we are as old as the land we live in

No body respects us any more , No body respect our history and our victories , already the out side world does not know that we have victories anymore

I am from the generation which was raised upon the victories of 6 October war 1973 , I opened my eyes since the 1980s to find all those who fought in it from the high and middle high ranks in high positions from governors to ministers to a president who ruled for 30 years

They were there and the corruption was and is still there !!

I am having mixed feelings now

Those guys from the army who fought in 1973 the Israelis to get the land , to get the lost dignity to revenge for their terrible defeat seemed to forget patriotism that made them cross the canal and raise the flag on the other bank of the canal !!

even 1973 war victory is no longer considered a victory by many thanks to them ,I am not speaking internationally , but I am speaking nationally , some people now from believe it was a charade "one commenter once told me here that" and some believe that we lost because they read some general here and general there !!

Is the temptation of the position so powerful ?? is the temptation of the power so great ??

Do you they like how we become ??

We are no longer influential power in the region whether in the Arab world or in the Middle east or in the Islamic world or in Africa or in any where !!

I am tired from reading History , believe me it is hard for hardcore history fan to read about how great her country was from 30 years ago and look to her country's present now ,it is divesting , I can't imagine the future , in fact I do not want to because I am scared of the image I can see !!

  1. I say the 6 October war 1973 was a charade and you find it difficult to believe. Let us examine some facts:
    1. The well known and documented resentment and refusal to accept the outcomes of the 1948/49 war and displacement of Phalistinians from their lands and creation of Israel east of the Jordan River.
    2. Nasser’s regime directly blamed the monarchy for its handling of that war. They milked that line beyond your wildest imagination and Nasser became almost on the level of prophet in the Arab world. To the point that he believed his own fantasy and thought he is indispensable
    3. Egypt, Syria and Jordan entered the 1967 war following a well documented huge arm buildup with the help of Russia and verbal attacks on Israel and the US. The Israeli started the war (how dare they?) then within 6 days they spread their land control beyond anyone’s imagination .including their own.
    4. Egypt’s army supply of serious weapons was almost depleted and relationship with the Soviet Union was heading downward very fast. They only supplied Egypt with the type of weapons sufficient to sustain the war of attrition not a serious long term and broadly scoped war. The type needed to regain the lost land in the 1967 war (forget about the original source of the conflict).
    5. Any country/regime enters a large scale war under these conditions without a clear plan how to maintain fighting until achieving good part of their goal is crazy.
    6. On the other side Israel had a very sophisticated arsenal of modern weapons supported by American Intelligence information. They didn’t have however, the human resources and consequently the desire to maintain control over such spread of land facing close to 40 millions Eegyptians alone. Any solution to remove Egypt out of the equation is a huge victory to them (a peace of mind).
    7. Egyp ‘s regime and its descendant at the time !970’s t on the other hand ,after years of singing the song of self rightness couldn’t negotiate peace with Israel (this is shameful). They needed to play a nice drama (the fake victory of 1956 still in their heads). Then came the actor Ashraf Marawan to play in that drama.
    8. What made the outcome of 1973 all of a sudden respectful compared to what King Farouk had achieved??!!.
    9. Go figure and tell me if you still surprised of the spread of corruption that followed.

  2. anonymous above, is very ill-informed and has not got a clue about whatever he is talking about.

Sometimes I really wonder, how come some people think like that?

It is impossible to fall upon people with very special minds except in the Arab world and Pakistan which is even more catastrophic

I don't recommend that you try discussing anything with them- it will be a waste of time.

  3. Ill informed !! What is the healthy informed response to each statement made in my comments? How come the 1973 results (where the Golan, West bank, Gaza are out of the picture) is considered victory (followed by a signed peace agreement),while 1948 is a huge defeat? mm ill informed for sure!

  4. @anonymous ,if you read my post very well ,you will know that I believe in the 1973 and I do not accept anyone says that it was a charade because for the Israelis it was not a charade it was a defeat ,they tried to hide it but in vain
by the way the nonsense about Ashraf Marwan I read it before so do not bother

look if you read my post you will find that I am talking about another thing
you do not want to believe the victory well it is your problem ,by the way I know the facts very well and I won't accept any other disrespect to one of Egypt's greatest victories on the same day of the victory
dear I know history very well so no need to point me the fiascoes of Nasser
ah about the Golan , well dear if you do not know the Golan is under the rule of another country and another army was supposed to return it back , if you want to know really what happened in 1973 you should first know how the Golan was gone in the first place , I recommend that you check the posts under the category 1967

@Karim,the problem some of them real believe this theory , I wonder what a 1973 veteran would say if he read this

  6. In math. if you draw a line between 2 points you are very likely to be wrong. Connecting a line between 3 points however you are close to reality. 4,5 points you are on the money. Replace points with documented political events and the line with the true political story.
I am not debating the courage of the lost Egyptian officers in those wars. Believe me I lost very close family members and friends to family members in the 1973 war. Their courage and what they faced doesn’t tell the true story. Do you think the high rank army officers (in Egypt, or in the US for that matter) know the evil behind what their top leader(s) sent them to accomplish or to face. Did the American army officers in Iraq know 10% what they were really sent for? May be now, when people with brains started to connect the dirty points. Wake up and smell the political dirt around you , otherwise you(as Egyptian generation) will fall in the same crap.

  7. Hi All,

I don't know why this discussion has moved to the 1973 war. I thought we were discussing the corruption and Egyptians faith in their government.
Though I would love to comment on the 1973 war. May be in a later post.

Yes I believe it's true the Egyptians since a long time have lost their faith in the regime. this is very obvious from the numbers of the those who are eligible for voting and those who actually do it!. I don't recall the exact percentage but it's an incredibly low one.
    Zeinobia Commenting on
"With no respect to us what so ever"
I believe that respect has to be earned not given just like democracy. So let's think did we at this times earn it ? as people i mean.
A population which does not protest or pursue its rights as it should, shouldn't not expect it on a silver plate. Oooh I love the people if Georgia and the Ukraine !! :)
one last thing the issue is not changing the regime with another that would eventually do the same stuff. The issue is a cultural thing of not being this passive and simple stating and perusing the nation’s right to rule itself by its own choices and that each representative of in the parliament or the government knows that he can be questioned and judged by the people

    Cheers
    alaa

  8. I agree with Alaa. The passivity and the waiting for someone else to come and change the way things are, is the main problem. Real change only occurs when everyday people want real change from a grassroots level and decide that the sacrifice is worth the loss that may be incurred. Egyptians as a nation haven't reached this point. Perhaps it's because they cannot overcome living in a state of fear and poverty. It reminds me of the time of Pharoah and Moses. Moses and Haroun were willing to sacrifice and die and that is why they were able to overcome their fear and overthrow their corrupt leader. Same with French Revolution, American Revolution, Russian Revolution etc. When the masses rise up and demand change, then it will occur. Egyptians can't wait for a big white hero (American Administration) to come and help enforce change. Change must come from within. I think eventually it will, once people reach the point where they are so miserable they have nothing to lose and will rise up and demand change. But until then, I can understand how Zenobia could feel malaise and lack of patriotism. Also, the society runs with system of tipping and bribery that goes from the doorman to the nation's leaders. This is a system that has to be removed. Even tourists complain of it. This system of corruption has got to go.

Also Zenobia you are brave to write about such things in a society that doesn't tolerate freedom to speak one's mind, more and more.

  9. Societies in general, and in the Middle East in particular, will continue to suffer at the hand of corrupt incompetent leaders as long as we label “victory” solely and dominantly with military battles and ventures. When we speak loudly and consistently to the leaders that we demand health care, economic health, education and efficient infrastructures, security measures to protect all of the above not their position and political ego, then we can hope for change. I like to use the example of Japan suffering the most outstanding defeat in WWII. After the war however, they put their priorities straight. They worked on all the above mentioned elements in a country with limited national resources (far less than Egypt) and you know what? If you do your homework, you will soon realize that they achieved almost all their objectives that drove them to enter WWII without going into military battle. Their economy surpasses the European community. Simply put we should convince leaders it’s a job not a privilege for them and to be inherited by their family members.

  10. @Meedo, thanks so much for these sweet words , I am really blushed and I do not know how to reply except that I pray to God that I always will be as you expected :) by the way good luck in blogging ,you are the third youngest blogger I have ever seen , the first was a Lebanese girl , the second was Jordanian and you are the third ;)

@anonymous ,may I ask you which war you think it was not a charade in your opinion !!??
do you know that in 1973 the Israeli commanders were sent to trial for the defeat and you tell me it was a charade , man you do your logic explanation away of me

@Alaa, well I do not know why it suddenly it was about 1973
about the main topic , I understand what you want to say , but let's bare in our mind the following points
1- that our people through history did not rebel against their ruler easily , passive , well it is a passive but we can't change this by day or night , the regime knows this and is using it still our people is like the Nile , the flood of Nile when it comes it breaks what stands in front of it , when it floods I do not know ,our people are very very smart , it got an excellent understand for politics still it got this great patience to wait that the angel of death comes and takes the soul of the Pharaoh
2-You forget here the effect of fear , unfortunately President Nasser made a legacy of creating fear in the people minds and hearts that anyone who would say no , who would go in a protest will be sent beyond the sun as we use to say
Look to pre-1952 , the Egyptians were not afraid to go out cursing the king and the Prime ministers
2-Ukraine is a good example , but do not forget for decades Ukraine suffered even worse than Egypt as a communist country , the people did not go in orange rallies immediately
Democracy and freedom are a right ,in a perfect world it should be given away with no cost at all for the people , but we are not in a perfect world at all and yes we have to earn but how and you got a fearing machines that does not go back to 25 years but more than 50 years

@Summar you put your hands in the pain , the poor income and the fear are the reason why people do not fight back to get back their rights , it is all about fear in fact because the people fear that their low income will go
still we should not forget that very low income can make the most peaceful passive people to rebel
The people in Egypt believes that they should wait till God saves them from the Pharaoh, the problem is that it is no longer the time of miracles and prophets and God does not help or even like the lazy people ,it is a closed circle that can be broken because it was broken before in 1804 when people chose Mohamed Ali , in 1919 , in 1922 for the constitution,in 1936 ,and I hope that it would be broken very soon insh Allah
Strangely our people are known to be very religious , still they do not have enough faith in God that they would conquer their tyrannies if they want
@Snoby , I do not know if Japan is the perfect example , come on their ex-prime minister was hospitalized because of criticism and their ministers are often end their lives because some silly mistakes where as here the prime ministers would kill the people to secure the chair
seriously speaking Japan and Germany and their huge jump after WWII is not a surprise because here we are talking about people who are so dedicated to their countries , even in WWII Japan and Germany were almost invaded half the world
after the WWII their people did not want to accept the defeat easily , no they did not , forget about the military victory and go for the economic and technological victories
may be it is in the Social culture of Japan , I do not know
here in Egypt and the Arab world they use the victories which are the near to the hearts and minds of the people to flirt them , to justify why they are here in their place with no will to leave it till death ,forget about Egypt and 1973 ,go back to the Tunisian President Bourgiba , look how many years he stayed in rule as the hero of independence !!
